The Wind Rose Program
WHAT IS THE WIND ROSE PROGRAM?
The Wind Rose Program is a six-month innovative complex trauma-informed, strengths-based, culturally responsive, competency-driven, therapeutic coaching and mentoring program for transitional-aged youth and emerging adults with histories of complex developmental trauma. Complex trauma can stem from experiences of chronic and severe maltreatment, neglect, and placement disruption beginning in early childhood, and is associated with an evolving escalating cascade of mental health, behavioral, academic, vocational, and relational difficulties. The consequences of these difficulties include disrupted developmental milestones, derailed personal functioning, and impeded successful maturation into a contributing member of society.
WHY THE WIND ROSE MOTIF?
The Wind Rose, also known as the Compass Rose, is an ancient nautical symbol used for the classification of the winds since the 13th century. We chose it as the symbol of our program because it represents the guidance and direction we can provide our clients as they navigate their new and evolving paths, and inspires exploration.
WHO IS THIS PROGRAM FOR?
The ideal client for this program is a transitional-aged youth or emerging adult who has experienced developmental trauma and is grappling with its impacts on their mental health, academic performance, and personal relationships. They should possess a basic level of self-awareness and be open to engaging in a structured therapeutic process.
While the program is designed to offer support and build competencies, clients should have a foundational readiness to work on personal growth and be willing to participate actively in coaching and mentoring sessions, including ability to attend a significant proportion of mentoring sessions in person at our Melrose offices. They need to demonstrate a minimum level of self-management, such as the ability to follow through with scheduled appointments and complete assigned tasks, as well as a commitment to developing skills for emotional regulation and goal setting.
Clients will be encouraged to explore and establish a direction for their future using the Wind Rose model, and their success in the program will be greatly enhanced by their ability to engage in reflective practices and to venture into the community to participate in activities and experiences relevant to their personalized mentoring path.
