Foundation Trust 2023 Black Writer Fellowship Open for Applications Through November 18

The Foundation Trust is excited to share that applications are now being accepted for the 2023 Foundation Trust Writers Fellowship at Follow Your Art Community Studios. This program is designed to celebrate and support traditionally marginalized writers in the Greater Boston area. This year, the fellowship will be offered to a Black writer currently working on a longer writing project. The one-year fellowship includes an award of $5,000, teaching and mentoring opportunities, two public events and writing space.

The ideal candidate would be a self-identified Black writer of published works interested in working with Follow Your Art Community Studios in Melrose to inspire and empower under-represented voices and emerging writers, while working on a longer project of their own.

We are thrilled to support a second year of this fellowship,” commented Dr. Joseph Spinazzola, Executive Director of the Foundation Trust. The reception to the public fellowship events of the last year has shown just how valuable these discussions are to the local writing community, and to our community on the whole.”

The Foundation Trust (www.foundationtrust.org/) is a private grantmaking organization that supports small to medium-sized New England nonprofits. Among its objectives is to advance inclusivity and diversity in the arts.

Last years recipient of the 2022 BIPOC Writer Fellowship, author Neema Avashia, reflected on the benefits of the fellowship, noting that The Foundation Trust fellowship supports so many aspects of writing beyond just the financial component. Through the fellowship, I connected with a whole new community of writers, got to hold a warm and celebratory book launch event in March, and honed my teaching craft in writing workshops with both adults and young people. And there is no doubt in my mind that the fellowship has both increased the visibility of my book, and the richness of my writing.”

Our collaborations with Foundation Trust have enriched our organization and our community,” said Kris Rodolico, FYACS Executive Director. “We are excited to continue this program and welcome a new fellow.”
